This
is a short list of books that I value. I recommend looking at the websites
of publishers like: Banner of Truth, Christian Focus, Evangelical Press,
Presbyterian and Reformed Publishers, among others, and examining their
catalogues.
Preaching and Preachers, David Martin Lloyd-Jones, Zondervan
For pastors and preachers, I use as a devotional book, try to read through
once a year.
Joy Unspeakable, David
Martin Lloyd-Jones, Harold Shaw Publishers Title taken from 1 Peter 1:8,
a presentation of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. For me, the biblical
view of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, essential for preachers of the
Gospel.
Pentecost-Today?, Iain
Murray, Banner of Truth Along with the above book by Lloyd- Jones, we have
a solid view of revival. Especially helpful in seeing the difference between
the Reformed and Arminian points of view in regard to revival.
Revival and Revivalism, Iain
Murray, Banner of Truth This is the book that got me started in 1997, rekindled,
fired me up.
Spurgeon and the Hyper-Calvinists, Iain
Murray, Banner of Truth This book helped me more than any other understand
Spurgeon and see the difference between Finney influenced evangelical Christianity
and grace Centered Christianity.
The Forgotten Spurgeon, Iain Murray, Banner of Truth Spurgeon
is important to me because he stood between a dead, cold, unbiblical Calvinism
on the one hand and Arminian thought on the other.
Who are the Puritans?, Erroll Hulse, Evangelical Press The Puritans are a wonderful study, rich, inspiring,
and instructive. This book will be a treasure.
Churches Beware! A
modern edition of Warnings to the Churches, J.C. Ryle, Evangelical
Press The Anglican Bishop of Liverpool, great insight into problems facing
the Churches.
Lectures to My Students, C.H. Spurgeon, Zondervan Spurgeon's
lectures to the students at London's Spurgeon College. Another book I use for encouragement and instruction‹and as devotional
piece.
The Soul Winner, C.H.
Spurgeon, Whitaker House Spurgeon's central ministry was evangelism and
it pursued it diligently. Here Are valuable lessons and instruction for
those who share his passion.
According to Promise, C.H. Spurgeon, Baker Book House Never
get enough of Spurgeon.
Matthew Henry's Commentary on the
Bible, in 6 volumes, Hendrickson Publishers These volumes have larger print,
and are simply easier to handle than the single volume. I love to consult
Henry, it is rich and powerful, with views of passages I would never see.
